Greg tipped me off that my site has somehow been spammed by WeAreMovieGeeks.com
I wonder what ever gave him that impression…maybe it was the 15 images that somehow found their way between every single post on my pages. Now considering I had never heard of WAMG until this discovery, it’s unlikely I actually took steps to steal and post images from such a site. Obviously I reblogged something that they took offense to and this is their retribution. Meanwhile, I have no idea how to fix this whatsoever and have emailed them asking them to be the bigger men about this and just tell me what they want taken down. Yeesh. This isn’t the kind of PR I’d be proud about.

If I had to guess, you must be hosting an image in your theme that lives on the wearemoviegeeks server. If you remove it, you shouldn’t see these anymore.
This is how folks get back at people who hotlink their images, since it steals bandwidth from their servers.

Wow & here I thought it was just a bagcoffee inspired meme and was going to start following PWK to see how it would end.

You know if the Media Corporations are so concerned with what they consider “piracy”, they should be looking into vengeful solutions like this. I mean if they really want to make some noise.

I wrote to Scott Hutcheson about this issue this morning. I paid him the handsome sum of $5 to use the theme that he designed. He said that 50,000 people are currently using the theme (though some have stolen it) and that his bandwidth costs are through the roof. I wrote him and suggested that a better route may have been to give people WHO PAID HIM MONEY to use this template might have been to send an email to those people asking them to kindly transfer this image to their own servers rather than insinuating that we somehow stole from him. He wrote back with the following:

50,000 emails? It would take me a month sending the daily limit. Not to mention that everyone using it didnt pay. someone posted the code a few months ago and its been out on the web for a while now. I have no way of reaching everyone.

On one hand, I guess I can understand, but the way he went about this was a TOTAL dick move.

I paid $10.  The extra $5 was for a custom header graphic he said he would design for that amount.  He never sent me even a reply email, after sending me the code and  taking my money — I ended up creating my own header graphic.  In MY case, he actually stole from me and I’m pretty sure it’s not my fault his business model based on hosting the graphics himself was so stupid.
