» Will They Make A Nike Commercial Out Of That?
I think Leaf’s comment is funny because I don’t like Cleveland or pretty much anything from Ohio that isn’t named Chris Spielman or Chuck Woodson.
But there are plenty of winners in sports and entertainment who are a moment (Dances with Wolves, ‘04 Pistons) and plenty of losers who still manage to define a moment (Good Fellas, 4 x Buffalo Bills are bigger in my consciousness than the ‘91 Giants for example).
Abrams isn’t a director of much note in my book, the execution is often meh, but he’s a hell of an idea guy. James may never win anything, but it’s hard for me to think of the NBA having the same spark without him.
Kobe in contrast has never been a very compelling character. He almost went to prison for rape and he couldn’t even be an interesting villain.
James may carry the Marino-esque loser * into retirement but his game and his persona are far more compelling than his contemporaries in my book.
James dressed quickly in the locker room, put on headphones and went to the team bus without talking to reporters. What Leaf said. J.J. Abrams and LeBron James are both false idols.
