Buzz Time
Just a couple of things I don’t want to get lost in the bevy of great shows this Friday and Saturday.
Friday is the Dead Weather.
But it’s also the High Strung CD release at the Berkley Front
I ended up buying the vinyl off of Amazon a few months back, if you haven’t heard the new album by one of Detroit’s hardest working and seemingly continually underapprecated live bands — you should go and pick it up.
At the Cadiuex Cafe there’s Valentiger wsg Chris Richards & The Subtractions and the Prime Ministers. Cadiuex Cafe is going to be one of the Detroit eatiers appearing Monday’s episode of Anthony Bourdain’s No Reservations, where presumably Tony will get a big pot of garlicy mussles, drink some beer, bowl some feathers and say something about how food tastes better in a place that has authentic character. If you go Friday you can say you knew the place back during the old days before TV ruined the place.
Saturday is even more packed
The Satin Peaches, The Decks, Augie and Korin at the Magic Stick
Mick Bassett and The Marthas, The Nice Device and Anna Ash at the Belmont
The Veils at the Pike Room
But I have to agree with Bagger Vance and suggest that Johnny Headband/Pop Project at Smalls is not to be missed.
This weekend almost reminds me of one of those late January, early February weeks where everybody realizes that Blowout is coming up, so they have to get a show in before it gets “too close” to Blowout to get a decent turnout. It’s a great problem to have.
