Clint Eastwood
Speaking of Detroit in the Super Bowl Chrysler ad yesterday Eastwood said, “What’s true about them is true about all of us.”
He’s damn right.
What’s true about Detroit, is that no corporation is saving it. In fact, according to some people, stuff around here isn’t too great.
Let’s not forget Chrysler, America just saved you (for the second time in my lifetime), not the other way around.
I’m all for hope, breaking down political barriers and good jobs that pay a living wage.
Chrysler stood up for a lot of that in that ad.
But Chrysler, GM and Ford’s comeback should not be equated with Detroit’s comeback. We are more than our historic employers and fact is, most of us don’t work for them anymore and we have a lot farther to go.
Detroit is more than its brands, America is more than its corporations.
But our problems are bigger too and to loose sight of that is a very scary proposition.
