» ''The Office' is the Most Depressing Show on Television
It’s only depressing if you are somehow surprised by Jim’s situation or how your own sitation mirrors Jim’s. I’m not suggesting his situation doesn’t suck, but I think most people are fairly in tune with how miserable their own careers are.
30 Rock is in it’s own way far more hopeless, because Liz Lemon (not to mention Jack) has the job that Pams and Jims dream about and her life is still a mess of awful coworkers, no personal life and beurocratic crap — to me, that’s more depressing. Further, it kind of suggests that the only people capable of being happy are child like semi-retards (Kenneth and Tracy).
I’d suggest both shows are still funny, hyperbolic for sure, but I still perfer laughing at modern medocrity, rather than crying over sitcoms.

The Office has been miserably unfunny the past couple seasons because of the writers’ insistence on hamming up the one-dimensional quirkiness of each character, but this piece just makes me feel miserable.
