“ And they got together and swore a pact to the devil. They said, ‘We will serve you if you will get us free from the French.’ True story. And so, the devil said, ‘OK, it’s a deal.’  „

Robertson is certainly not the first to use guilt, fear of supernatural retribution and blatant racism (that pact with the devil was a successful slave revolt) to line his own pockets.

He built the Christian Broadcasting Network on the back and wallets of his followers, then sold it to Fox for billions (they in turn sold it to ABC) and he personally pocketed millions.  One of the things he did with that money was purchase a diamond mine in Liberia, partnering with the Liberian Government run by dictator Charles Taylor.  Charles Taylor is of course in exile, after being brought to justice (at least somewhat) as a war criminal for crimes against his own people and neighbors.  When the US government decided to aid the attempt to bring Taylor to justice by offering a reward for his capture, Robertson stuck by his buddy and accused George Bush (yup, that’s right) of trying to dispose a Christian leader and bring Muslim rebels to power.  This is despite the fact that one of the crimes Taylor was accused of was helping launder blood diamonds from other parts of Africa that were being used to help fund Al Qaeda.  He accomplished this by… wait for it — mixing the diamonds with those from Roberston’s mine.

Robertson’s story is a quaint, if horrid little fairytale that uses the excuse of pacts with Satan to explain how a bunch of African slaves could possibly beat the “superior” white Europeans in a decisive military victory.

Robertson’s life includes dealings, pacts and partnerships with actual, real life devils that lie, murder, steal and covet power.
